There are many minds and families all over Kerala who have kept the old and the new and never lost the tradition. These houses are known to tourists through most movies.
There are those who travel to such homes, which combine the pride, architecture and legend of antiquity. One such is Arikkara Tharavad in Melatoor village in Malappuram district.
Melattur is a beautiful village located in the state of Rajasthan. Melatoor is a hill station on the banks of the Velliyar River. Arikkara is one of the proudest places in the country.
The members of this clan are the Eradis of the Samantha community. The Iowa family is about a hundred years old.
It's hot feeling cold here
Even in extreme heat, the interior of the house is cold. The floor is made of granite and wood.
The granite, wood and other materials required for this were brought from Madras and Coimbatore. Arikkara Tharavad, which has a spacious interior, corridors and rooms, was recently renovated.
The old hall was replaced with a large one, replacing the old ones that had been damaged over time.
The temple of Ayyappan, the family deity, has a pond and a large chira (Arikkara chira) near this house.
Many people come here to experience the wonders of the place and to see the glorious sights of antiquity.
paddocks(പത്തായപ്പുര )
The family had four large paddocks. In the past, landlords used to store paddy, fruits and vegetables for the family and their dependents in Iowa Pathayapura.
It is said that they had large paddy fields at Karuvarakund and Iringattiri and used to bring paddy here in bullock carts after harvest.
